When the AI you turn to evolves faster than your to-do list.

OpenAI is shifting how we think about ChatGPT in 2025: it’s no longer simply a chatbot—it’s becoming your smarter companion. The company rolled out large updates this year that change the service’s reach, relevance and role.
One of the biggest additions is the Apps SDK, letting developers build apps you can chat with inside ChatGPT. Instead of only exchanging messages, you can now ask: “Can you turn this outline into a slide deck with Canva?” or “Find me a hotel in Paris through Booking.com” and the app appears directly in your chat.
Also, reminders and task-handling features have matured. With Plus, Team and Pro subscriptions you can schedule future tasks like daily reports or recurring reminders directly in ChatGPT—think of what early digital assistants promised, but now built into a single service.
On the model front, the introduction of GPT‑4o, followed by upgrades and variants, made responses faster and better at reasoning. One update even let you control how much “thinking time” the model uses—choosing speed or depth when you need it.
Safety and responsible use also got a major boost. In an announcement, OpenAI shared how it worked with over 170 mental-health experts to teach ChatGPT to better recognise distress signals, guide users toward real-world help, and reduce responses that fall short by 65-80%.
And if you’re shopping or researching, ChatGPT now brings improved web search and tailored shopping suggestions in its chat interface—images, reviews and buy-links for fashion, beauty, electronics and more, across Free, Plus and Pro users.
These aren’t incremental tweaks—they reflect a deeper shift. ChatGPT is no longer just for text conversations: it’s becoming a platform for apps, a tool for real-world tasks, a trusted guide for well-being and a hub for personalised shopping.

If you’ve been using ChatGPT to brainstorm or write, consider how you might use it next to organise your day, integrate a third-party service, or offload repetitive workflows.
Of course, none of this matters if you don’t test and adapt. So here’s your invitation: open ChatGPT, explore the new Apps tab, try scheduling a task or shopping in chat, and notice how your workflow changes. Because when the tool evolves, your productivity can too.
