And it’s not what you’d expect from OpenAI’s CEO.
When even the CEO of OpenAI is telling you to slow down with ChatGPT… maybe it’s time to listen.
Sam Altman just said out loud what many of us are quietly realizing:
Some people—especially the younger crowd—aren’t just using AI for productivity.
They’re depending on it emotionally.
He mentioned teens saying things like:
“I can’t make any decision without asking ChatGPT. It knows me. It knows my friends. I just do what it says.”
Sounds convenient. But also a little scary, right?
This isn’t just about tools anymore.
It’s about trust. Influence. Control.
According to a recent study, 72% of teens have used an AI companion, and many say they trust its advice. Not occasionally. But “completely.”
That’s not assistance. That’s dependence.
Altman said it himself:
“Even if ChatGPT gives better advice than a therapist, something about living our lives the way AI tells us feels… bad.”
And he’s building this thing.
So, the big question isn’t what AI can do for us…
It’s what we’re no longer doing for ourselves.
If you’re building with AI—or raising kids who use it—maybe this is the moment to pause and ask: Who’s really making the decisions?
